Success!

Whilst its on my mind, I'd like to thank everyone who supported my little exhibition.
We raised almost £500 for the "Friends of St. James Church" of which I'm supposedly secretary.
So thanks to everyone who contributed prizes, baked for the cake stall, and all the other stuff that went on. Oh and thanks to those who parted with their cash to own a print or two!

Well as its actually work time (well coffee break anyway) I'd better get going!
'Til next time!

Pressure...

Evening all!

Ok with now only a few days to go 'til the exhibition I'm starting to kack me pants. Thanks to the article in the Gazette there now maybe more people coming to check it out, making me more nervous... As long as we make abit of cash for the church and I can cope with being out in public then I'll be happy - But I'll need a VERY stiff drink on saturday night I think!

If anyone happened to stop by the main site on sunday night/monday you will have been greeted by some Mexican hackers political message as the main server I'm hosted on was compromised.
I can understand people hacking into the CIA and other US Government sites, but why me?! LOL

Um what else?... Finally the Xbox 360 is starting to produce some new titles, I have 3 arriving in the next few weeks. Tiger 07 and Call of Duty 3 to start, followed closely by the much waited for "Gears of War" - another reason to get this weekend done with! More time to game!

Oh, anyone had the feeling of impending doom? Hopefully its just a little bit of trepidation about saturday...

Happy days!

Oops! and some announcements

Evening all blog readers out there!

Ok ok its been to long since I last posted. As with most things in my life I start well then get bored or just lose the will to carry things through. I promise I'll try to post a little more regularly.

Ok... Announcements:
1. I have an exhibition! Saturday the 11th of November in South Charlton Village Hall 1pm - 4pm. The purpose - to massage my own ego (joking) and to raise money for the village Church. Everyone seems to be taking it very seriously and getting excited. Me, I'll just be glad when the small amount of publicity is passed - I get too embarrased at this kind of thing.
2. The Rock Cricket Club presentation night is on the 4th of November. Looking forward to a good drink then! :) And hopefully walking away from the evening without somehow being conned into winning the "Duck Cup"

I will be updating the website further during November, with a few examples of what is going to be in the exhibition.
Also a few snaps from my recent venture south of the Tyne to the big city of London! Quite an eye opener for someone who rarely travels further south than Shilbottle - but I was pleasently suprised that it wasn't as bad as what everyone makes out. Although I think all the english have moved out of London, as it was rare to hear anyone passing you in the street speaking the mother tongue. I suppose that is why its classed as a cosmipolitan city.
Though a 7 million reduction of people wouldn't go a miss. Far too many people living in one place!

Ok observations on how the froreigners in our country live over with, I shall now forget about this blog for another month! LOL

See you soon

Quiet...

Evening all, quiet time on the photography status.

Spent most of my recent time watching my new HD tv - its quite something to see once its installed in your own home. Seeing it in the shops just doesn't do it justice! Sky Movies HD is revolutionary, also the football is also spectacular when compared to the SD broadcast. Looking forward to seeing "Revenge of the Sith" on HD at the end of September.

I should be getting a new Sigma 10-20mm lens delivered tomorrow, hopefully it should aid my landscape photography - I've heard good things about it!

Will report back soon!

Weather etc.

Well as the weather has been so crap recently the opportunities for photos has been few and far between. No doubt as we hurtle our way toward the August Bank Holiday we are destined to have more rain over the next week and the weekend itself!

I have had a few comments recently about the poor spelling and grammar on this site and my blog in particular.
I rarely proof read and only spell check if I remember. Grammar?! I don't have a clue about it. Struggled to get a C at GCSE for English Lang. and couldn't wait to drop it like a hot rock! Don't even ask me about English Literature!! I'm just grateful I didn't have to ruin "Lord of the Rings" by reading it at school and over analyzing it. Its a book! You read, you create the scenes in your head as if you are Peter Jackson and move on, no need to pick apart every damn sentence!. Or do what I do for most book to film adaptations, wait for the 1st photos to be leaked of actors in costume etc, then start reading! Saves even more valuable thinking effort! ;)

Also, I don't write in the "Queens English". I don't talk like the Queen so I'm not going to write like it either!
OK rant over with! LOL (This was for two people who know who they are!)
And to think I let them read Chapter 1 of my own work... (I still haven't seen how much red pen is scrawled on my proof!)

6-a-side Tournament

Ok, an enjoyable day was had by most yesterday - despite the early start. Having to get up at 7:30 on a sunday is just a no-no! The weather did put a dampener on proceedings, but it made for some interesting games.
Congratulations to "Rock of Ages" (also known as the "auld'uns") who won the tounament, also for giving us (the "Pebbles" AKA the "yung'uns") a drubbing in the process.
Thanks to my Team for the effort, I am pleased we won one game!

During the day I (and a few others) took over 600 photos, I don't know if I have the will power to sort most of these. But there are some good ones in there...

Check out the winning team below.

Tragedy

This past Tuesday we were shocked at the tragic passing of a longtime friend of the family.
Brenda Bagnall, who first became aquainted with family during the second world war as a child evacuee escaping the potential dangers in Newcastle during that time, was killed in a car accident on tuesday afternoon.
Our thoughts go out to her brother Bev and her extended family.

Busy, Busy, Busy...

OK then, tonight I have updated the site a little there are now new images in the skys section. Plenty more to come in the other sections (especially the Black & white section). One problem I'm having is putting the images into the correct category - oh well, it'll just mean that you have to look at EVERY picture! Further sections should be updated later in the week, or if not done by Friday then it will be next week.

Gonna be busy for the next few days, so no time to get the last 2 weeks of cricket pics sorted and onto here - apologies to those that want to see themselves, you'll just have to wait.

The Rock CC "6-a-side" competition is on this sunday - I'll be there with camera in one hand, bat in the other, as I turn out for the Rock CC "yung'uns" (last chance this year! ;) ). Festivities kick off at 10:30. BBQ and beer 'til it runs out. All welcome.

Track of the moment is "Empire" by Kasabian. Great 1st single from the 2nd album - kick ass video too, beautifully shot. Can't stop playing it! More here.

I notice theres still no UK release date for Kevin Smiths "Clerks II" (officially anyway). Hurry up I wanna see it!!

Neglecting...

Well that didn't take long, 7 posts then nothing for almost 2 weeks. This may happen from time to time.
So apart from the stifling heat we are suffering from right now, not much is going on. Just trying to keep cool... Was badly pissed on Saturday, was out with the boy Thompson - its all his fault.

Actually played cricket at the weekend instead of just watching, thanks to Stephen for manning the camera (glad the ones of me looking useless and fat were very blurry!). Congrats to Tom for hitting his maiden century, I have a little memento for him to commemorate the event, again thx to Stephen for doing a fine job!

On my own camera work, been out quite a lot recently, I just haven't got anything ready to show you. Maybe I'll have time before the weekend...

'til the next time!

PS. Linda, have u got ur ticket booked yet? :P

What a weekend!

This evening the Gray family are mourning the passing of the matriarch of the cats in our house.
Penny, at a very good 19 years of age passed away in the evening sunshine of this beautiful day. Her and her offspring have given us much joy over the years, she will be missed, but her memory will live long in me. It is staggering to think that she has been in my life for almost 2/3s of the time I have been here. She has seen 2 house moves, completely outlived 3 of our dogs (Honey, Dusty and Holly) most of her own offspring, and been responsible for the numerous murders of rabbit, mouse, rat, bird and she was even credited with the deposit of an adder in the house... A legend who can now sleep well after a life lived to its fullest.

Emotions were already running high this weekend, after over 10 years I have had the chance to walk around the farm that I grew up on. It was fascinating to once again walk through the old buildings and through the fields where I would walk in my younger years. Alot has changed, yet alot has remained the same. Only now can I stand back and see the beauty of the old steading, notice small details that I had never noticed before, whether due to the years of hording and dust gathering or that everything seemed darker back then... So spending the best part of two days there photographing for my Aunt and Uncle has been a great pleasure and also gives me some closure to my years on the farm as I have some stunning images of the "ancestoral" home of my generation of Gray's - many of which I shall be framed and displayed where ever I go in this world.
So thank you to Uncle Donald, Aunty Ena and Paul for allowing me to do this for you.

Some of the infrared panoramas came out particulary well (when they stitched together!)
Overall I was a little disappointed with the number of shots I ended up pleased with, but I suppose it was above my general average of useable shots.

I'll get some processed so I can upload them here, for you to see.
(Hopefully tomorrow)

Looks like a scorching week coming up!

Thank you all, and some technical probs,,,

Good evening to you all.

Thank you to everyone with thier positive feedback about my site and photos. Its quite humbling...

There has been a slight cockup with the email account attached to the domain, so I have now reverted to my old email address on the contact page. So if anyone has emailed me through this address then please send it again.

On a separate note,
All the best to Ewan and Peta for their wedding tomorrow. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Results

A very good (and early morning) to you.

After playing around for awhile with this evenings shots, heres a sneaky look the results - I think they may make it on the website proper.

Ok, all these were merged together then cropped to fit a 20"x8" panorama print size (except the vertical one)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Not perfect, as I couldn't get the sun perfectly round, there is still some "buldging", maybe to do with camera shake...

Next...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Three Infrared shots merged together to capture this cloud formation.

And to wrap todays efforts...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Another three IR shots merged, but this time vertically as I tried to get the effect of standing below the edge of the cloud.

I might add some subtle colour to the IR shots, we'll see...

Its Here!!

Ok, its done!
v1.0 is online and seems to be working... (fingers crossed) Quickly tested on IE and Firefox. If anyone has any errors drop me a line.

So you can now tell all ur friends about www.andrewsgray.com

To celebrate I went out to capture a promising sunset. Almost missed it! It ended up that a lack of cloud actually hindered the effectiveness of the shots. But never the less, I got a handful of shots that may be of some use...

'Til next time!

Making progress...

Ok, have ordered the hosting and domain name, so hopefully should be all systems go tomorrow as it is ready to go.

Took the kit down to the cricket yesterday, some useful shots, very overcast so the sport setting struggled with the lack of light so there is some distinct motion blur. Took a great pic of our Vice Captains son which I hope will end up on the website (gotta get permission from him 1st though).

Hello to all the Rock CC players who continue to rib me about everything under the sun - I will get my revenge here. I will post some pics here as soon as I figure out the best way to do it...

Almost there...

Ok, hopefully only a few days from launching the website. Its seems to have been a long road. Well its probably been 3 years in the making... But only 3 weeks since i got the idea for this layout and thought - Fck it! Lets do this!

So here I am, another late night tinkering away...

Anyways, will probably sort the domain and hosting tomorrow. Then theres very little stopping me sorting the rest of it.

Went out tonight and took 176 pics, of sunset on the moor. One pic will make it onto the website... My conversion rate is quite poor 1:176 and thats a good day shooting!

Anyways 'til next time...
